Rising Voices 2: The Bennett Prize for Women Figurative Realist Painters features work by 11 women artists presenting a diverse range of approaches and themes. The paintings are by the 2021 Bennett Prize winner Ayana Ross, 2019 winner Aneka Ingold, alongside paintings by all finalists: Sophia-Yemisi Adeyemo-Ross, Tanmaya Bingham, Chloe Chiasson, June Glasson, Holly Keogh, Lavely Miller, Rebecca Orcutt, Susu, and Amy Werntz. The finalists were selected from among 674 entrants, a number that surpasses the entrants in 2018, the inaugural year of The Prize. “The 10 finalists selected reflect the richness of how female artists choose to depict the most personal of subjects – the body.” said Patrick Moore, Director of The Andy Warhol Museum and juror for the Bennett Prize. The Bennett Prize seeks to encourage the pursuit of figurative realism by women painters and provides support over two years to a painter whose work demonstrates excellence in the genre. The Bennett Prize is a collaboration with founders Steven Alan Bennett and Dr. Elaine M. Schmidt, The Pittsburgh Foundation and the Muskegon Museum of Art. The founders and the organizers of The Bennett Prize hope that it will elevate women in the visual arts and inspire a new generation of artists to make representational paintings that are culturally and critically relevant and engaging.
