VisitPITTSBURGH, along with the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, announced the creation of the 90 Painted Chairs program, which will allow local artists to paint parking chairs that will be auctioned for a local charity. This program is intended to help promote the marketing campaign that is built around Pittsburgh as a welcoming city and the act of offering someone a chair – a sign of hospitality. The infamous Pittsburgh parking chair had a starring role in the Pull Up A Chair. You Are Welcomed Here. campaign video, as it was shown as a symbol of inclusiveness.
While the name of the program comes from Pittsburgh’s 90 neighborhoods, the number of chairs that will go up for auction can far exceed that number. The auction will be held at an event in early 2020.
